Non profit organizations which are tax exempt as a 501(c)(3), may apply for exemption from the payment of sales and use taxes in Virginia. To qualify for such sales and use tax exemption, the non profit organization must provide the following information: federal identification number of the organization, proof of compliance with the State’s charitable solicitation requirements, estimate of the organization’s annual gross revenues, financial audit or financial review may be required, Form 990 of the IRS, and proof of the organization’s tax exempt status with the IRS. Charitable Solicitation

Every charitable organization in Virginia, except as specifically exempt by law, which intends to solicit contributions in that State, must file an initial registration with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs on Form 102.
